With communication becoming more streamlined and oversaturated than ever before, I find it important to cut through the noise with my design work. I make choices as a designer to offer a final product that is engaging for the target market, while still delivering on the expectations of the client. Good design work truly offers value to the viewer, rather than just purely communicating information. My role as a designer is to translate the goals of the client into a visual language that speaks to the public.

When beginning a new project, I put major emphasis on the ideation period. Pushing concepts past the first few obvious conclusions allows the final product to stand out from the crowd. Allowing other mediums and disciplines to be integrated in my work also opens up a fresh perspective. While technology is a great tool, my design problem-solving benefits from my consideration of analog/handcraft approaches. This allows for a more “human” touch, whether it be through something as simple as hand-lettering or as unconventional as carving information into an apple.

What sets my design work apart is the influence of my background in other artistic mediums. I have developed strong illustration skills that frequently find their way into my projects. My experience with printmaking also influences my work — working with relief prints improved my attention to negative space, and the process of screen-printing taught me to examine how colors and textures layer upon each other. My study of photography and 3D art makes me consider how physical objects can communicate ideas. Overall, my combination of skills and influences gives my work a compelling edge. With everything I create, I hope to take a fresh and surprising approach.
